California Now Allowing Undocumented Immigrants Access to Public Education
In a historic move, Governor Jerry Brown recently signed a new legislation, which allows undocumented immigrants in the state of California to apply for public financial aid for education. While this move has been welcomed by the immigrant community,Mbt Sandalen Katika, it is being strongly debated by most others. This new legislation allows all those who came to the country before attaining 16 years of age and have no documents to gain access to aid. Interestingly, these students are already eligible for in-state tuition but with the help of this legislation, they can now get access to private financial aid.
According to the Governor, education is a dream for all and is absolutely essential for a better and improved tomorrow. He strongly believes that investing in such children who deserve to improve their chances and lives will help invest in a better tomorrow for the country. Moreover,Mbt Sandalen Sadiki, he believes that by providing such aid,Mbt Staka Sandalen, the administration is treating everyone as equal and without discrimination.
It is important to note that undocumented immigrants form only one percent of the student population in the state. However,MBT Tunisha Schuhe, the problem with regard to access to financial aid has been a long standing one, which is now resolved by this legislation. The need for such legislation has been long debated and often vetoed, as in the case of Jerry Brown's predecessor. Incidentally,MBT Schuhe Amali, Governor Jerry Brown had supported the Bill during the last gubernatorial campaign, albeit with some amendments.
Proponents of this legislation have welcomed this action, stating that this action on the part of Governor Jerry Brown will actually send a positive response to the people of the state as well as the country. This move, according to the proponents, will actually show lawmakers and others alike how to tackle their problems in a productive and positive manner.
Calling it the Nightmare Act,MBT Changa Schuhe, opponents of this act are up in arms to contest and overthrow this legislation. Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, who leading the opposition of this Act, feels that this move on the part of the Governor is his biggest mistake after the move to unionize public employees. In fact, his opposition to this move is so strong that he has promised to launch a referendum campaign against the passing of the Act. According to him and other opponents,Mbt Schuhe Kamba, this move would not only encourage illegal immigration into the state but would also lead to heavy losses to the tune of $23 to $40 million annually.
The immigrant community, on the other hand, has wholly welcomed this move, stating that this move has shown that the Governor has kept his promise. Coming in the wake of the forthcoming elections, where the Latino community is a strong part of the electorate, this move is definitely interesting.
